WYANDOT WETLAND

& The Barnes Addition are part of the East Sandusky Bay MetroPark

The 84 acre Wyandot Wetland Meadows Preserve along with the 74 acre Barnes Addition, make up the eastern most parcel of the East Sandusky Bay MetroPark. The majority of Wyandot’s acres have been reclaimed from row-crop farmland to native prairie meadow vegetation. The northern portion of the property includes a narrow strip of woods.

In 2012, 74 acres of marsh and wetlands called the Barnes Addition were added to Wyandot Wetlands Meadow Preserve. Together with the ODNR’s Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve to the east and Wyandot Wetlands Meadows Preserve and Putnam Marsh to the west, this addition is part of a three-mile continuous stretch of coastal wetlands bordering the bay.

The Wyandot Wetland Meadows Preserve acquisition was made possible through partnership effort with the Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program, which is administered by the ODNR Office of Coastal Management. The Barnes Addition acquisition was made possible through partnership efforts with Ohio Department of Natural Resources and The Trust for Public Land.
